Reinforce Your Fish Tape End With The Flex Flyer
Regular readers of these articles have probably realized by now that I am frugal. Yes, frugal is the right word. I’m not cheap. I don’t mind spending money, but I do hate waste of any type. That is why, along with tools, these posts spend so much time on subjects like recycling and waste reduction. It is also why I am so excited to bring you my latest offering of must have items, the Flex Flyer.
The Flex Flyer is not some sparkly new toy. In fact, by itself, it isn’t much of a tool. What it is though, is an item that gives you the ability to not only save the expense of buying a new tool, but to improve on one, that I would bet, you already have.
Fishy Fish Tapes
I have always found fish tapes a little fishy (pun intended). It seems no matter how much you spend on them or how carefully you treat them they always end up broken. They either get hung up on a pull or jammed up when being fed.
These situations inevitably end up following the same routine. First, someone says let me give it a go and then someone says oops sorry boss. It is so common I would bet that 90 percent of you out there are either working with a broken tape or have at least one stashed somewhere.
Flex Flyer to the Rescue
That is why the Flex Flyer was invented. It is the simplest way, you will ever find, to rescue those broken tapes. All you need is two pair of pliers and in less than 20 seconds, you can have your fish tape not only back in working order but working better than ever.
To install the Flex Flyer, all you have to do is to slip the base onto your tape, grasp the end of the tape with two sets of pliers and give it a quarter turn twist. You are now ready to screw the loop attachment on and get right back to work. No heating necessary.
The quick change base comes with standard ¼”- 28 threads so it will accept almost any other type of leader, you may prefer. If you have never used the Loop Leader, though, it is worth giving a try.
Loop Leader
Considering what the Flex Flyer can save you on tapes, you could almost call the Loop Leader a free bonus. Then again, after using it, you might think that the Loop Leader was worth the purchase price and that the rest of the package was just gravy.
Its Loop technology allows it to glide through all types of conduit including flex and if, heaven forbid, you should succeed in getting it hung up it is easy to snag from the opposite end once again saving you from having another broken tape and missing tip.
The idea of having to replace a fish tape just because of a broken tip is, to my thinking, a waste of your hard earned money. At the same time, working with a broken tape is a real pain and will usually cause you a lot of extra time and headaches.
If you can not only repair your old tape, but make it easier than ever to work with, you have a win/win that is hard to pass up.
