Quickest Way To Strip Copper Wire For Scrap-Copper Wire Stripper Jnr.
First things first, I would like to say to everyone Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, or greetings to you, whatever your holiday of choice is, this season.
Unfortunately, as much as we all love the Holidays, in just a few days it is going to hit most that they now have to pay for all the festivities that we have been enjoying.
Luckily, I am here to help you with just that and show you how to get ahead on next year. Best of all it is something that we all should be doing anyway; stripping our scrap wire down for recycling; it is good for the planet and just as important it is good for our pocket books.
Why Strip Your Copper Wire?
I know most of us have been taught to collect our scrap, but many electricians I know are too busy to take the time to strip their wire before hauling it to the scrap yard.
I can understand this. It is no great fun stripping wire down, especially by hand, but consider the fact that “Clean Copper Wire” can bring 50 to 100 percent higher return when sold than insulated wire and you’ll realize it is worth the investment in time or, even better, a Copper Wire Stripper.
Copper Wire Stripper
I don’t normally advocate a company by name but I have to tell you I have tried several different wire stripping machines and the best I have found is built by Rack-A-Tiers. Their machines are strong, durable, easy to use and fast.
It doesn’t matter which of these machines you choose their Heavy Duty CSW-1, Regular Copper Wire Stripper CSW-2 or the Copper Wire Stripper Jr which operates off of a drill, they will all pay for themselves very quickly and then start showing you a profit.
Using the Copper Wire Stripper
Using the Copper Wire Stripper is K.I.S.S. simple:
- Select the wire guide that best fits your wire or cable
- Insert a piece of wire and run your blade down till it makes contact
- Remove wire and tighten blade two full turn
- Release the safety stop and turn the machine on
- Start stripping wire
Simple, easy and quick, even a first day apprentice will have a hard time messing it up. As usual, I can’t say they are idiot proof, some people are confused on how to use a hammer, but they are very close.
Machine Features
While the Copper Wire Strippers vary slightly in features depending on model there are some features that the entire family shares.
- All aluminum frames
- Hardened one piece blade
- Strips solid core or braided wire
- Blade made from tool steel
- Blade easily re-sharpened
- Fully adjustable wire guide
- Bench model – Anti-slip base
Conclusion
Copper Wire Strippers are a great way for you to increase your profit margin, without adding a great deal of work. I stock pile my scrap and when there is enough I hire some temp workers to spend a day or two running it down.
Another thing I started doing is buying wire from friends that can’t or won’t take time to strip it themselves. I pay them a dime or so over the spot price and save them the trouble of hauling it off, so their happy. I keep the $1.00 plus difference in the clean and dirty price so I’m happy. That is how I pay for Christmas at our house.

I know that I am not normally willing to strip the insulation off copper wire before I take it to the scrap yard. It just takes too long. However, it would give my kids something to do. So, I would love to have a wire stripper to do the work for me. I just don’t think I have enough wire to justify it. http://www.sackinmetal.com/copper.html
